With more than a year until Annapolis selects its new mayor and City Council, starting Monday, candidates can officially file to enter either race. Candidates have until July 28, 2025 to file their paperwork. The general election is Nov. 4, 2025. As of now, Jared Littmann, a former city alderman who is a Democrat, is the only candidate to launch a campaign to replace outgoing Mayor Gavin Buckley, whose term ends next year. Buckley, a Democrat, has served two consecutive four-year terms and by law cannot run again. Buckley is not endorsing anyone as of now, said Mitchelle Stephenson, spokesperson for the city. Littmann, a Democrat, launched his campaign in January, 18 months before the Democratic primary in September 2025, and on Monday will be able to file his formal paperwork as a candidate. He represented Ward 5 on the City Council from 2013 to 2017. The Republican primary will also take place in September 2025. |
